RAF 2: Chief of the Air Staff formally signs King's Regulations into effect

King’s Regulations formally signed into effect by the Chief of the Air Staff (Head of the Royal Air Force), Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Wigston KCB CBE ADC

Royal Air Force

The Royal Air Force approaches its 105th Year on 1 April 2023. It has a very proud pedigree.

Seeing the King’s Regulations formally signed into effect by the Head of the Royal Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Michael Wigston prompted a kaleidoscope of memories.

Seeing a hard bound copy of the former Queen’s Regulations on the desk most certainly brought back memories. I recall QRs with affection. They are written in the formal language - legalese - with which I am most comfortable.

In its History, the Royal Air Force has served with distinction with KRs its backbone in the reigns of King George V, King Edward VIII and King George VI. We had last had Queen’s Regulations in the Armed Forces during the sixty year reign of Queen Victoria. That, however, has been surpassed by Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1952 ~ 2022 (1926 - 2022) and I served with great pride during a part of that between 1974 - 1991.

I mention pedigree. That is because the Royal Air Force and the Royal Naval Air Service were both born out of the Royal Flying Corps 1912~1918. We are served well, today, by the men and women of both the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm and the Royal Air Force.

Our Commander-in-Chief is His Majesty King Charles III, Marshal of the Royal Air Force. Long may he reign.

GOD Save the King
